Logistics Seminar with a focus on Latin America

May 28th 2014

IUC (Industrial Development Centres) East together with Siemens and East Sweden Business Region arranged on May 15 a logistics seminar focusing on project logistics in Latin America. Scandinavian Logistics Partners’ VP Americas Mr. Nils Ekman was among the speakers, as well as our agents from Brazil and Mexico.

Mr. Eric Westman from Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery AB opened the seminar held at Finspångs Castle and noted that Latin America is a region that offers great opportunities for future business. Many countries in the region have strong growth and play an increasingly important role in world trade, or as Mr. Nils Ekman said in his speech: “Latin America has become an exciting and promising area thanks to dynamic and structured economies, stable governments and the influx of foreign direct investments”.

Scanlog’s agents in Mexico and Brazil gave very appreciated presentations on practical logistics issues when trading in their respective countries and described among others how the processes for customs clearance can be accelerated to speed up the delivery of goods to their final destination.

A common theme among several speakers at the seminar was that it is possible to find metrics to manage the costs and the environmental impact involved in transportation and logistics. Mr. Per-Anders Thunell, ABB’s Supply Manager Transport Logistics described how ABB by measuring and mapping its transports now clearly can show efficiency gains that contribute to lower total costs and higher environmental efficiency. Professor Mats Abrahamsson from the University of Linköping also spoke in the same context about critical success factors directly related to logistics systems and gave the participants the message that “Quality and time is everything.”
